Accreditation Benefits:

Accreditation can support your IRB and grant applications and your conversations with grant funders, nonprofits, community organizations, schools, and government agencies who want confidence that a project is in capable hands.

Working through the assignments with structured feedback brings your practice into sharper focus, including its strengths and the areas you would like to develop. Participants with various level of expertise found that this accreditation provides an excellent learning experience.

A structured path for photovoice practitioners: have your practice reviewed and recognized
The Photovoice Facilitator Accreditation Program is for people who are familiar with photovoice, whether from our courses or from years in the field, and are ready to have their practice reviewed and recognized. It blends self-paced assignments, mentoring, peer review, and Community of Practice, so that experienced practitioners can document and strengthen what they can do in real contexts.
Working through the assignments, you design a session, build an activity, facilitate a photo discussion, and shape a full project from planning through outreach. An experienced photovoice practitioner reviews each assignment and shares constructive feedback to strengthen it, mentoring supports your thinking along the way, and the Community of Practice keeps you connected to other photovoice facilitators. The program leads to accreditation recognized in 51 countries and a written description of what earning the accreditation involved.
Alumni of Talking with Pictures or the Photovoice Method Summer School may begin with a Community of Practice session.
The Accreditation Structure:
- The accreditation follows the real arc of a photovoice project, from planning a single session to mapping a whole project.
- Each assignment is assessed against a structured rubric, with feedback and the opportunity to revise until the assignment is accepted.
- Instructions and resources for each type of submission sit in the program’s Resource Library and adapting them to your participants and context is encouraged.
- Community of Practice opportunities to support your learning progress
- 1:1 Mentoring sessions to guide your thinking and strategies for adapting photovoice to your context and succeed in your assignments
