(she/her)

Nagham Khalil is a researcher, activist, and cultural practitioner whose work centers on identity, storytelling, and the power of narratives to drive social change. She holds an MSc in Rural Community Development from the American University of Beirut and an MSc in World Heritage and Cultural Projects for Development from the University of Torino.

Her interest in photovoice began during her graduate studies, where she explored it as a participatory method for development and worked on creating adaptable guidelines for different contexts. Her recent photovoice work is an independent research paper with young Bedouin women in Lebanon, Silenced Voices, which explores their socio-cultural identities through the photovoice method. She is currently preparing youth photovoice initiatives in war-affected regions as a pathway for healing and trauma recovery, while also contributing to oral history projects that decentralize narratives of the Lebanese civil war.

Nagham’s practice is grounded in feminist, participatory, and anticolonial approaches. She first engaged with PhotovoiceWorldwide through courses and an internship, and today works closely with the team to further develop and adapt the photovoice method. She continues to use visual storytelling and oral history as tools to amplify silenced voices and to reimagine futures rooted in justice and belonging.
